Federal prosecutors say a Maryland woman has pleaded guilty to mail fraud in the fraudulent purchase of properties in Maryland, Virginia and Washington.

Thirty-seven-year-old Jamilah Al-Bari of District Heights entered the plea Friday. She will be sentenced November 13.

According to her plea agreement, Al-Bari used her job at M&T Bank in Upper Marlboro to create false documents to verify assets of straw buyers. Al-Bari sent false verification letters on M&T letterhead to banks and mortgage lenders.

Prosecutors say Al-Bari bought five properties in Baltimore and two in Spotsylvania, Virginia. The loss amount attributed to Al-Bari was between $400,000 and $1 million.
