The price of copper has doubled in the past nine months, and thieves are taking notice.
Nearly $10,000 worth of copper was stolen from Frazier Quarry in Rockingham County Monday night. Deputies say the thieves took 430 feet of copper cable and some copper welding supplies.
Another business in Rockingham County is also reporting a copper theft. Deputies say someone took some copper wire, a metal cutting saw and bolt cutters, worth a total of $1,157, from Shenandoah Stone Friday night.
A company working on Interstate 81 had some diesel fuel and a generator stolen last week. The theft happened near exit 291 in Toms Brook. Deputies say the thieves stole the generator and fuel from the company's trailer overnight.
Page County deputies are looking for a bicycle thief after recovering two stolen bikes. The bikes were taken from Trinity Drive in Stanley earlier this week. Deputies found the bikes, but not the person who stole them.
In the span of just two days last week, there were four cases of broken windows in Harrisonburg. Police say a home window was broken on Sully Drive September 24. The next night, a car window on Davis Mill Circle was shattered, a car on Greenbriar Drive had a broken window and someone broke a window at a home on Collicello Street.
Augusta County deputies say someone stole five guns from a home in Mount Solon over the weekend. The muzzleloader rifles were taken from a home on Whetstone Draft Road.
Staunton Police say someone stole some Halloween masks from a front porch on Hays Avenue. The "Michael Myers" and "Jason" masks were taken Saturday.
