Police are asking hunters and hikers for help in their investigation of the slayings of two Virginia Tech students in the Jefferson National Forest.
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office wants hunters and hikers to report any suspicious items they find in the Craig Creek Road area.
A passer-by found the bodies of 19-year-old David Lee Metzler and 18-year-old Heidi Lynn Childs August 27 at Caldwell Fields in the national forest. The site is a day use and campground area about 15 miles from the Blacksburg campus.
Police say the students were shot.
Virginia State Police said Friday that a reward for information leading to a conviction has topped $50,000. On Saturday, a fundraiser by a hair salon in Lynchburg raised another $10,000.
