Health officials are trying to ease fears about the vaccine for the H1N1 flu, but there are many parents who still don't want their kids getting the vaccine.

People from six months to 24 years old are encouraged by health officials to get it.

Timberville couple Mary Garber and David Texidor are split on whether or not they want their kids vaccinated. Texidor is for it.

He says, "My son's still going to public schools, which is a worrisome problem for me because anyone else could have it and just breathe on him, and then he has it."

Garbor is against it.

She says, "We need to know more about it, and that the government is not always as sure of themselves as they portray themselves to be."

According to an Associated Press poll, 38 percent of parents say they are unlikely to give permission for their kids to be vaccinated at school.

Government officials at all levels are on a media blitz. They are trying to ease concerns about the vaccine. Virginia Health Commissioner Dr. Karen Remley was in Norfolk Friday.

"We're trying to focus on those priority groups, and make sure they have access to vaccine, and can get it quickly as that flow comes through," says Remley.

"I hope I take the right course. Although, there's two different courses to take: have or not to have it," says Garber.

Health officials hope people in the target groups choose to have it as soon as possible.

"After that, we'll be eligible. So, I hope they have enough vaccine for everybody," says Texidor.

Remley says she expects there to be enough vaccine for all the target groups to get it in Virginia by the end of the month.

Permission slips are going to parents throughout the Valley, offering them the choice to have their kids vaccinated at school.

Any parent that doesn't allow their children to get the vaccine is irresponsible. It's a safe vaccine and everyone should get it.
