A call for peace in the Middle East is being made in the Valley. A pair of women from Israel and Palestine were in Harrisonburg Friday, urging action by the United States government.
The women are on a tour through the region trying to inform Americans about their personal struggles in the Middle East.
Jala Andoni is a Christian from Palestine and Ruth El-Raz is a Jewish woman from Israel.
The women were brought together by the group Partners for Peace. They believe there are a lot of misconceptions about what's fueling the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine.
They spoke about Friday's announcement regarding President Barack Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize. El-Raz says she wants to see more action by the president.
"It's always in the process. It's like what's been going on since 1993, a process of achieving peace, but nothing is actually being done," says El-Raz.
"Without the support of the American people, without the support of the American government, and especially the president of the United States, there will not be real peace in the Middle East," says Andoni.
A third woman, a Palestinian Muslim, was also supposed to be on the tour. However, an official from Partners for Peace says the U.S. State Department denied her visa.
