Afghanistan natives living in the Valley gave their opinions on the U.S. war in their homeland Tuesday night.

A film called "Rethink Afghanistan" was shown at Clementine's in Harrisonburg. It explores the ongoing U.S. engagement in the country and why in the eyes of the filmmaker, the war is not working.

A war veteran and Afghan students living in Harrisonburg were on hand to answer questions from the audience after the film.

"We cannot kill people to bring peace actually. It should be more of an engagement and talks," says Jawan Shir, an International Studies student at James Madison University who is from Afghanistan.

JMU Economics student Faraidoon Shariq says the Afghan people need new incentives to take ownership of their country.

"The international community and at the same time, the U.S. needs to focus more on development projects for Afghanistan, need to focus on how to improve the education for the Afghans," says Shariq.

Both men say the complex situation in Afghanistan makes it hard to tell if a surge of troops into the country would work. President Barack Obama is considering sending more troops into Afghanistan.
