One of the first people on the scene of Monday's crash was a father who knew the situation all too well.
Doug Caracofe's daughter, Amy Lin Caracofe who was a Fort Defiance High School student, died after a crash on Dam Town Road last January.
Driving to work early Monday morning, Doug became one of the first people to stop at the scene of a another crash. Angela Kania, another FDHS student, was inside the mangled car.
"When I stopped that car and got out I had mixed emotions, even getting out," says Doug.
However, Doug said he knew what he had to do. He says calling police and waiting for an ambulance were just a reminder of his own family tragedy.
"It just brought back a lot of emotions, a lot of feelings, a lot of hurt," says Doug.
Amy Lin died in a similar crash on the same road in January 2008. Doug says it's been tough the past few days, especially when he found out Kania had passed away.
"It seems like it was just yesterday maybe that my incident went down. But then I think how far I've come," says Caracofe.
Anytime anything happens to a Fort Defiance student, Caracofe says he tries to be involved in some way.
"If it's maybe talking to them before prom night or putting in another cross up there, that's my healing. That's my healing," says Doug.
On Thursday, Doug will place a cross for Kania's cross at the Fort Defiance wall.
"No I do not want to make no more crosses. I do not," says Doug.
He has a corner in his workshop dedicated to Amy Lin in which he spends some time every day to remember her.
Fort Defiance High School is planning to honor Kania during its homecoming football game Friday.
