Someone who bought a Mega Millions ticket at a store near Winchester is much richer today.
The winning Mega Millions ticket -- worth over 230 (m) million
dollars -- was sold in Stephens City, just off Interstate 81.
Lottery officials were waiting to hear from the winner, but said
that could take days or weeks.
Dangie (DANN'-jee) Robinson, a clerk at the Red Apple store that
sold the winning ticket, said the store is abuzz today about who
the winner might be. She says the winner could be from anywhere,
since they sell so many lottery tickets to travelers passing
through.
Virginia Lottery director Penny Kyle says they don't know yet
exactly how much that ticket is worth -- but it's over 230 (m)
million dollars, because sales were bigger yesterday than they
expected in all eleven Mega Millions states.
She says the lottery jackpot will put over five (m) million
dollars in state coffers for education.
