A woman who was fired from her Berkeley County teaching job this year has been indicted on charges of sexual misconduct with a 14-year-old student.

Stephanie Jo Walters was indicted Wednesday on one count of sexual abuse by a person in a position of trust, third-degree sexual abuse and solicitation of a minor through use of a computer.

The 28-year-old former Musselman Middle School teacher is accused of sending sexually explicit text messages to a male student and kissing him in a janitor's closet. She was fired by the county school board in May after her arrest.

Walters is free on bond. A working telephone number for her could not be immediately located Thursday.

WHSV Poll
A committee in the House of Delegates has sent a bill to the House floor that would allow private, faith-based adoption agencies to discriminate against prospective parents based on their sexual orientation. Would you support this?

Yes, I think if it is a private organization it's okay.
No, there should be no discrimination.
It should depend on a case by case basis.
