The Harrisonburg Police Department wants to let businesses know about a man who has allegedly swindled hundreds of dollars from local stores.
Police say, on three separate occasions, an unknown man has gone into a store and bought a drink. When he goes to pay for the drink, he gives the cashier a $100 bill.
However, as the cashier begins to make change for the bill, the man says he will pay the correct amount and asks for the big bill back.
Police say, while the man is fumbling with his money, he asks the cashier to go ahead and make change for the $100 bill.
After the cashier gives the suspect about $99 in change, the man allegedly does not give the $100 bill to the cashier.
Police say the suspect makes the transaction quickly and then leaves before the cashier realizes he did not give the cashier the $100 bill.
According to police, the suspect has swindled the Target on East Market Street twice, on September 9 and October 9. Police say he also swindled the Wal-Mart on Burgess Road September 9.
According to a press release, police say the suspect had tried to swindle the Target on East Market Street July 10, but that attempt failed.
Anyone with information about the suspect or his whereabouts is asked to call Crime Solvers at (540) 574-5050.
