While police continued to search for her, the uncertainty about the fate of 20-year-old Morgan Harrington is impacting the thousands of students who live and go to class near where she disappeared.
Some students say they're changing their plans for the weekend because of this. It may be that Harrington's disappearance will warn students about going out alone.
Ellie Hinkin, a third-year student at the University of Virginia, says, "It makes you think twice about things like that."
Hinkin says she and her friends still intend to go out, but Harrington's disappearance may make them change things they might do, such as going to the restroom or going outside alone after dark.
Virginia State Police say the FBI will be following tips that have come in from around the country. Officials also spent Friday morning searching along some train tracks near campus.
Harrington was last seen Saturday night at the John Paul Jones Arena where she was supposed to attend a Metallica concert.
She had driven with one friend from Virginia Tech to Harrisonburg to meet another friend before heading to the concert.
Earlier reports say she became separated from her friends after arriving at the arena and ended up outside the building. Due to an arena policy, she could not get back inside.
Police say Harrington was in the area around JPJ until at least 9:30 p.m. A passerby found her purse and cell phone in a nearby parking area.
Crime Stoppers is offering a $100,000 reward for any information that leads to Harrington. That amount is a Charlottesville high.
Anyone with information that may help officials find Harrington is asked to call (434) 352-3467. You can also send e-mails to bci-appomattox@vsp.virginia.gov.
