Shepherd University says it's raised $16 million from more than 4,500 individuals and organizations.
The Shepherdstown school says the money will go toward scholarships, support for academic programs, construction and other needs.
Shepherd says the donations came during a "silent" fundraising campaign that started in 2006. The hope is to raise another $4 million during a public phase.
President Suzanne Shipley says the campaign will provide life-changing opportunities for students.
