The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office says a man shot two people in a Lovettsville home, then barricaded himself in the home and killed himself.
The sheriff's office says 45-year-old Barry L. Gates entered the home on Irish Corner Road around 2 a.m. Tuesday and fired several shots, striking a man and woman before they fled.
Officials say the man is listed in guarded condition at INOVA Fairfax Hospital and the woman was taken to a local hospital with injuries that aren't thought to be life-threatening.
The sheriff's office says Gates barricaded himself in the home. When he stopped communicating with negotiators, members of the Emergency Response Team entered the home and found he had fatally shot himself.
