Friends and coworkers of Dennis "Chip" Taylor react to the news that his death, and the death of his wife and step-daughter were homicides.

A memorial for Taylor has been set up outside of the Broadway Rescue Station. His coworkers remember him as an incredible guy to be around.

"The main thing with Chip was that any day that you had with him would be brightened when ever he walked through the door," says Station Capt. Jody Quesenberry, a friend of Taylor.

The news that Taylor and his family's deaths were not accidental doesn't change the way his friends feel.

"Our reactions to the recent news, it really doesn't change what feelings we have and what loss we were dealing with since day one," says Quesenberry.

"Whether it was intentional or accidental, we still lost a great guy, we've lost a wonderful employee, we've lost a friend," says Fire Chief Robert Symons.

Members of the Rockingham County Fire Department say the most important thing is to remember Taylor and his family, regardless of the circumstances.

"I know there will be a lot of emotions but really, I just want people to remember them and who they were," says Symons.

"Each day gets a little bit tougher for everybody, and we just try to remember the good times that we had with Chip. That will be forever remembered," says Quesenberry.

The Rockingham Fire Department has grief counselors on hand to help firefighters get through this tough time.

WHSV Poll
A committee in the House of Delegates has sent a bill to the House floor that would allow private, faith-based adoption agencies to discriminate against prospective parents based on their sexual orientation. Would you support this?

Yes, I think if it is a private organization it's okay.
No, there should be no discrimination.
It should depend on a case by case basis.
