A top official for a West Virginia government contractor faces a federal criminal charge alleging he fraudulently diverted grant funding.
The U.S. Attorney's office has filed an information against Comar Inc. Chief Executive Albert Hendershot over his handling of a $100,000 state grant. The filing suggests Hendershot is cooperating with prosecutors.
The charge alleges Henderson allowed $5,000 from the grant to benefit someone who performed no work on the underlying state contract. Comar's former Web developer, Martin Bowling, pleaded guilty in August to diverting the $5,000 to his girlfriend.
Two former state officials also face charges involving the mishandling of the grant. They include Bowling's mother, who had been with grant provider Workforce West Virginia.
