Fayette County police are investigating the shooting death of a hunter on land he owned in the Springdale section of the county.

Sheriff Steve Kessler says police found the body of Clarence E. Stroud III, of Rainelle, in a wooded area Monday. The 50-year-old had been hunting on his property, and had suffered shotgun wounds to the chest and face.

Stroud's body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Charleston for an autopsy.

Kessler says police have not yet located any witnesses and are investigating Stroud's death as a homicide, although they haven't ruled out an accidental shooting.

WHSV Poll
A committee in the House of Delegates has sent a bill to the House floor that would allow private, faith-based adoption agencies to discriminate against prospective parents based on their sexual orientation. Would you support this?

Yes, I think if it is a private organization it's okay.
No, there should be no discrimination.
It should depend on a case by case basis.
