A local woman is remembering the five-year-old victim of Friday's triple homicide.

Kaylee Grace Whetzel, who started kindergarten only two months ago, was one of three people murdered in her West Virginia home. Her mother, Allaina Taylor, and her stepfather, Dennis "Chip" Taylor, were also murdered.

"She was special to all of us," says Nina Whetzel, Kaylee's great-grandmother.

It is hard for Nina to think about what happened to her great-granddaughter last week in Hardy County. Instead of remembering how horribly Kaylee's life ended, she is remembering every minute of the good times they spent together.

"This summer, I got to spend some time at her home while I was recuperating from illness and really, really got to know Kaylee," says Nina.

She needed to get outside and exercise to help with her recuperation, and Kaylee was there to make sure it happened.

"She would, everyday, take me for a walk down the lane and back," says Nina. "She thought that was really something, and I thought that was special too, that she wanted to do that."

Nina remembers Kaylee as a sweet, little, blond-haired girl who loved school and spending time with her father.

"He took her fishing and hunting, but I guess she didn't hunt much," explains Nina. "They just walked in the woods."

She says this tragedy is unimaginably hard on the entire family, but she finds some peace in remembering Kaylee and the joy she would bring to everyone around her.

Nina recalls, "She played T-ball and she loved to ride her tricycle on her grandpa's big long porch. That was one of the things she liked to do."

Two people have been arrested on murder and arson charges: Nakia Keller and Lorie Taylor. They were extradited to Hardy County Wednesday morning and are currently in the Potomac Highlands Regional Jail.

Kaylee's Day was a worderful day to remeber this beutiful child. As a new addision of the family I did not have a chance to meet Kaylee, but I know she was a beutiful, athletic, sweet little girl that could bright the faces of everyone around her, and I look forward to meeting her one day. This tradegy has taken a huge tole on the comunity and the family. And as a child myself I couldn't think of what Kaylee went through.I am a strong believer that everything happens for a reason, but I have not yet found a good reason for this. I know that Little Miss Kaylee is in heaven with her mommy watching down on her loved ones, she was truely an angel sent from heaven that got caught in the middle of this awful mis-hap. And was with us on this great day of celabration "Kaylee's Day"

WHSV Poll
A committee in the House of Delegates has sent a bill to the House floor that would allow private, faith-based adoption agencies to discriminate against prospective parents based on their sexual orientation. Would you support this?

Yes, I think if it is a private organization it's okay.
No, there should be no discrimination.
It should depend on a case by case basis.
