Newly released data say that slot machines are the biggest source of trouble for problem gamblers in West Virginia.

The Problem Gamblers Help Network of West Virginia has logged calls from more than 8,000 people to its 1-800-GAMBLER hotline since 2000.

Of those callers, more than 5,100 reported gambling at local video lottery establishments like bars and slot parlors, while more than 1,200 reported playing the slots at West Virginia's four racetracks.

More than half the callers reported spending all their income on gambling.

Network director Steve Burton says about nine percent of callers to the hot line report suicidal feelings.

Callers to the hot line are connected with gambling counselors and provided other services.

We are all adults. If you want to gamble-go. I myself enjoy gambling and that is my entertainment. If you can't control it you should obstain. It's like drinking- there are people that have a problem are we going to close all of the bars? Why should those of us that enjoy gambling and can control it be punished because of those whom can't?
