It's that time of year again. The tax deadline is only a few days away. And if you've waited till the last minute, here's some free advice.
You can get an extension without giving an excuse. But this will only last you until August 15, and you are responsible for paying at least 90-percent of the money you owe now. Rules are always changing so make sure you are aware of all the deductions that apply to you.
And always take time to double-check your work. "There may be some wrinkles you haven't thought about and so you ought to sit back and take a look at and see that you have deducted everything you could,” said Greg Geistert a CPA at PBGH in Harrisonburg.
And if you are running behind you will probably have better luck e-filing. You can e-file your taxes all the way until 12 a.m. on the 15th.
