Police say Internet pornography has been a significant factor in nine child sexual abuse cases in the first half of this year. Of those, more than half of the suspects have been teenage boys.
In four cases, all four suspects were 13 years old and all four victims were under the age of seven. Another case involved a 16-year-old and a victim under seven years old.
Each case has caused alarm for local police.
"All of these cases have been related back, a significant factor, to the viewing of Internet pornography," said Sgt. Joe Palaskey. "We have identified an increase based on these circumstances."
Palaskey adds that now that the problem has been identified, the department will be working on prevention and awareness measures.
During the same time period of these sexual abuse cases, police say another 13-year-old make was arrested for breaking into homes and stealing women's underwear due to his Internet pornography addiction.
