A trial is underway for the man charged with sodomizing a blind and mentally handicapped woman.

In May, 73-year-old John Oehlerking was arrested after he allegedly assaulted the 26-year-old woman at his Plaza Apartments home.

The two were reportedly acquaintances.

Oehlerking is charged with aggravated sexual battery and sodomy by force due to the patient's mental capacity.

If convicted, he could face up to life in prison.
