(Richmond-AP) -- Virginia's senior senator believes it's more important than ever for the United States to stay the course in Iraq.
Republican Senator John Warner said Sunday that it's important to maintain coalition forces in the Middle East. He says that the call last week by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to boost ground troops in Iraq is necessary. He says the move will, "cause a hardship on a lot of families," but he says the nation must provide the troops considered adequate by military commanders.
Warner also says that the United States should not formally negotiate for hostages. He says hostage taking has gone on "for thousands and thousands of years" in that region, and he believes there are other ways to secure their release.
