It's rare for Election Day to turnout flawless, which is why registrars throughout Virginia are on their toes Tuesday.

Doug Geib, the registrar for Rockingham County, started his day around 4:30 a.m., an hour and a half before the polls opened.

"I've done all the work, so I just sit back and wait for anything that might happen throughout the day," says Geib.

However, his main concern is for the poll workers and the spread of the H1N1 flu.

"We've been considering the possibility of sickness, but we have alternates this year," says Geib.

Geib has already used one of his backups because a poll worker reported having flu-like symptoms.

Regardless, it's bound to be a long day and a late night for registrars like Geib.

"The results usually come in about 8:30 or so, and then we can close up shop," adds Geib.

The polls will close at 7 p.m..
