In 2001 more accidents happened at the intersection of South Main Street and Pleasant Valley Road than any other intersections in the city. Fifteen accidents happened there.
The second worst intersection was Market Street and Carlton, followed by Main Street and Pleasant Hill Road.
City police say driver inattention seems to be the biggest reason for the crashes at the Pleasant Valley intersection. There's more traffic in the area because of the Interstate 81 interchange, which also means a lot of drivers are from out of town and are not familiar with the roads.
Police say being aware that a lot of crashes happen at this intersection and driving more defensively in this area will help reduce the number of accidents.
