A former New Market Rescue Squad member received a suspended jail sentence for stealing money from the local fire company.

Sheila Hirsh pleaded guilty Wednesday to misdemeanor theft in Shenandoah County Circuit Court, but won't have to serve jail time.

Last week, Nancy Mitchell pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of embezzling money while she was a member of the New Market Fire Company. She was sentenced to pay almost $1,000 in restitution.

Mitchell was president of the company before she and six other members were fired last year when the theft allegations surfaced.

Hirsh took company money to bail Mitchell out of jail.

How can you take from the Rescue Squad when most of there money is donations from the citizens. They should of been prosecuted to the fullest. I here that its not over yet. Haven't heard anything about any charges from all the New Market Fire House stuff yet. Are they just going to slap those guys on the arm and let them go to?

A committee in the House of Delegates has sent a bill to the House floor that would allow private, faith-based adoption agencies to discriminate against prospective parents based on their sexual orientation. Would you support this?

Yes, I think if it is a private organization it's okay.
No, there should be no discrimination.
It should depend on a case by case basis.
