Attorneys for John Allen Muhammad have released a May 2008 letter in which the mastermind of the 2002 sniper attacks in the Washington, D.C., area proclaims his innocence.

Attorneys gave out the rambling, handwritten letter Wednesday in response to requests for a statement from Muhammad. The attorneys say it was filed in connection with a court appeal.

The 48-year-old Muhammad is scheduled to die by injection November 10 at a Virginia prison.

Muhammad was convicted of killing Dean Harold Meyers at a Manassas, Virginia gas station during a three-week spree that killed ten in October 2002. The killings happened in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia.

In the letter, Muhammad refers to himself as "this innocent black man."
