The annual muster in Staunton honors World War II veterans from the 116th brigade.
Ninety-one-year-old George Fox from Waynesboro, a World War II veteran, remembers what it was like to be shot close to 22 times on D-Day.
Fox says, "Finally I woke up and he said, 'Boy, you're going to make it. You're going to make it.' And I said, 'How far?'"
Fox and several other World War II veterans were in attendance at the muster for the Stonewall 116th brigade.
Sgt. John Slaughter has even written a memoir about his experiences.
Slaughter says, "I landed on D-Day. I went all the way through the war and was wounded twice, but other than being a few weeks in the hospital, I served all the way up to the up river and met the Russians."
Slaughter says the muster gives him a chance to reunite with old friends.
He says, "We're moving on so fast that you never know when it's going to be the last time you might see them. So, it's a friendship-type thing."
While the Stonewall brigade is honoring army members from the past, it is also looking forward to the future.
Gen. Theodore Shuey says, "There is so much that we'll honor tonight in the way of what's in the past. But, we'll also look into the future of this organization. The strength of this brigade has never been better than it is tonight."
Organizers of the muster says that veterans came from as far away as Pennsylvania and Florida to attend the event, which honors their service to the United States and Virginia.
Close to 400 people attended the event, 18 of whom were World War II veterans.
