One week into a daunting task of collecting 962 turkeys in time for Thanksgiving, only five turkeys have been donated to the Harrisonburg Salvation Army.
With just over two weeks to collect enough turkeys to meet the number of
families that applied for seasonal assistance, the Salvation Army is asking
for help.
“With 200 more families than last year qualifying for assistance, we want to do everything we can to provide a basic Thanksgiving meal for them,” says Christal Yowell, Director of Development.
Capt. Duane Burleigh notes, ”We are blessed to live in such a caring community, we are praying that once they know what our needs are that many will again come forward to help their neighbors in need.”
As in years past individuals may drop off a turkey at any Sheetz location in Harrisonburg.
This year, instead of receiving a Sheetz card, donors will be entered in a drawing to receive one of five $100 Sheetz cards or free oil Change from Jiffy Lube.
For more information on how you can help, please contact the Salvation Army at 540-434-4854.
