Veterans were honored across the country Wednesday, including in the town of Grottoes.

People from the Grottoes community joined veterans from the Korean War, Vietnam, World War II, and 20-year-old Iraq veteran Angela Nelson.

The Spotswood High School graduate returned to Grottoes from Iraq a month ago. She was recognized during a Veterans Day ceremony at the Grottoes Town Hall.

Many vets thanked her for her service, including keynote speaker and Virginia Del. Steve Landes.

"We need to remember their sacrifice, and just thank them each Veterans Day so that we can do the things we do everyday of our lives," says Landes.

"It means a lot. We're lucky to have as much support back home as we do. We have a lot of support," says Nelson.

Nelson plans on staying in the military. She is now awaiting new orders on her next deployment.
