Virginia State Police are investigating three deadly crashes that were all related to recent bad weather.

A man was killed on Route 56 in Nelson County early Thursday morning.

Police say 66-year-old Alger H. Fleming crashed his Ford Ranger into a tree that had fallen across the road and then got out to examine the damage.

They say a tractor trailer driver swerved to avoid Fleming's truck but hit Fleming, who died at the scene. The tractor trailer driver was not injured.

No charges are expected to be filed in this case.

In a second crash, four people from Massachusetts were involved in a crash shortly after 8 a.m. Thursday.

The crash occurred on Route 13 just north of Nassawadox when a Toyota Scion ran into the median, briefly entered the opposite lane, ran back into the median and overturned several times.

One of the passengers, 30-year-old Yesenia Rivera, was ejected from the car and died at the scene. She was not wearing a seat belt.

Three other people, 24-year-old Stacey Colindres, 22-year-old Sebastia Zayas-Ramos and 24-year-old Kenjy Colindres, who were wearing seat belts, were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation into this crash is ongoing.

The third crash occurred around 8:30 a.m. Thursday on Route 258 in Isle of Wight County.

Police say 26-year-old Amy Pippin was traveling south on Route 258 when she attempted to pass a vehicle in front of her. She was hit head-on by a northbound tractor trailer.

Pippin died at the scene and her two children, a six-year-old girl and a three-year-old boy, suffered life threatening injuries.

The tractor trailer driver was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

All four were wearing seat belts.

The tractor trailer's cargo was livestock and several animals were killed in the crash.

Police say no charges will be filed.
