Richard Smith is wanted on three charges and is a person of interest in Wednesday's alleged robbery at a 7-Eleven store.
AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) -- The man who is currently a person of interest in an alleged robbery at a 7-Eleven store is now wanted for attempted first-degree murder in Augusta County.
Richard Smith, 47, is believed to be armed with two .38 caliber firearms, according to the Augusta County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies responded to a welfare check at a residence in the 200 block of Grey Fox Road in Mt. Sidney. When they arrived, they found 80-year-old Richard Eugene Orebaugh shot.
Smith stole Orebaugh's 2002 blue Ford Ranger extended cab truck with Virginia plates XWW1871, according to the sheriff's office.
There was an eight minute delay of school buses to allow air-care to land in order to transport the victim from the scene. The sheriff's office says there was never a threat to the schools in the area.
There are additional charges pending against Smith.
