Bridgewater College hopes spending $10 million on dorm renovations will make a better living space for students and increase enrollment.
"The board of trustees have authorized a steady growth of about 200 to 300 students over the next several years. And we are at full capacity in terms of residential space. Living on campus is a very critical part of our program here at Bridgewater, and we know we need more resident space," says Vice President of Finance Ann Keeler.
Bridgewater College requires its students to live on campus all four years of their schooling.
The college will be constructing a link between two neighboring dormitories, Heritage and Wright halls.
The first floor of the link will have a pedestrian plaza, cafe and a patio. The second floor will have a fitness, meeting and recreation rooms.
During the dormitory renovation, crews will also construct village-style housing to facilitate an increase of students. Those houses will be able to hold up to 16 students per house.
