Community members came out to support the future opening of the local food co-op in Harrisonburg.

The co-op will be located at 150 E. Wolfe St., between the downtown Harrisonburg Post Office and Kline's Dairy Bar.

The cooperative plans to buy produce and items from local farmers, orchard and bakeries. It will be one of four co-ops in the Valley.

On Saturday, the future location showcased one of three quilts that is made of tee-shirts from food co-ops from around the nation.

Harrisonburg Mayor Kai Degner says, "In many ways, this is the ultimate community project. It's citizen driven and a local business that is funding local foods and being economically viable. It's also downtown. It's perfect."

The co-op is expected to open around this time next year.

WHSV Poll
A committee in the House of Delegates has sent a bill to the House floor that would allow private, faith-based adoption agencies to discriminate against prospective parents based on their sexual orientation. Would you support this?

Yes, I think if it is a private organization it's okay.
No, there should be no discrimination.
It should depend on a case by case basis.
