A fourth person has been arrested in connection to the investigation into a Valley council woman's death.

Sixty-eight-year-old William Lee Copeland of Farmville was arrested Friday.

He has been charged with possession of a firearm after being convicted of a violent felony.

Both the Clarke County Sheriff's Office and the Berryville Police Department have been told that Copeland is being held on a $25,000 bond.

Members of both law enforcement agencies as well as the Virginia State Police were present during the arrest.

Copeland was arrested based on information found during the investigation into the July 30 murder of Berryville Town Council woman Gail Smith.

However, the firearms charge will be prosecuted in Cumberland County.

Three other men have been arrested in connection to this case.

Smith's brother, Timothy Smith Jr, and Edward Visosky III were arraigned last week in the Nottoway County Circuit Court for conspiracy to commit capital murder for hire.

A third person, Edward Poley, has been indicted on the same charge. He will be extradited from New Jersey before appearing in court.

WHSV Poll
A committee in the House of Delegates has sent a bill to the House floor that would allow private, faith-based adoption agencies to discriminate against prospective parents based on their sexual orientation. Would you support this?

Yes, I think if it is a private organization it's okay.
No, there should be no discrimination.
It should depend on a case by case basis.
