Ferrum College Student Killed When Mistaken for Deer
FERRUM, Va. (AP) A hunter faces manslaughter and other charges after authorities say he fired at college students he mistook for a deer, leaving one dead and another wounded.

A hunter faces manslaughter and other charges after authorities say he fired at college students he mistook for a deer, leaving one dead and another wounded.
A Ferrum College spokeswoman says three students were collecting frogs for a biology class at about 4 p.m. Tuesday when two were shot along a trail about a mile west of campus.
The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries says 23-year-old Jessica Goode of Frederick County died after being shot in the chest, and 20-year-old Regis J. Boudinot of McLean was shot in the hand. The third student wasn't injured.
Sgt. Karl Martin with the department says 31-year-old Jason David Cloutier of Ferrum was charged with manslaughter, reckless handling of a firearm and trespassing.
The department says Cloutier claimed he thought he was shooting at a deer.

Guys like this not only give hunting a bad name, but are EXACTLY the reason I stopped hunting when I lived in Northern VA. Haviong a gun pointed at me while up in a tree stand was the last step. Let's save the state some $'s and give him to a group of us Fathers with college-age daughters that are grieving for Mr. Goode and his family.
Typical action from the uneducated and useless part of society. This fool killed a woman that would have done something for society,; the "hunter" is a ---neck buffoon. Good for chewing tobacco and drinking cheap beer. Was he drunk while he took the shot? We can only hope he gets 20 yrs prison for this lack of thought. Stupid idiot!!
This girl was the daughter of good friend of a co-worker. Now because of a stupid act of careless hunter with buck fever she will never go home again, her parents and siblings will not see her graduate, raise a family or grace their lives with her presence. Nothing will bring her back, but there is punishment for his actions. If he shot only once, manslaughter, firing more then once at a target you can not recognize. Gross negligence manslaughter is the term. A gun owner, target shooter and former hunter.
