Railroad-related museums and organizations are teaming up to boost Virginia tourism.

The Roanoke Valley, Alleghany Highlands and parts of central Virginia hold the state's largest concentration of rail facilities, and the General Assembly designated the areas as Virginia's Rail Heritage Region.

Now, officials are combining their marketing efforts in hopes of drawing more railroad buffs to visit and spend money.

The groups involved include the O. Winston Link Museum, the Blue Ridge Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society, the Virginia Museum of Transportation and the C&O Railway Heritage Center.
