Operation Christmas Child was in full swing in the Valley this weekend.

The First Church of the Nazarene is full of thousands of shoe boxes it's collecting from Winchester all the way to Staunton.

The boxes are filled with toys and goodies for underprivileged children in war-torn countries.

The group says it's done well this year, already collecting 6,000 boxes.

"Well maybe one reason is, like I said, we had two speakers come locally and share about their experiences with Operation Christmas Child. And also, you know, when you're in a down economy, sometimes people give a little more it seems like because they don't do other things they might do," says Jeff Arbogast, local collection center coordinator.

Monday is the last day the church will collect boxes for the program.

WHSV Poll
A committee in the House of Delegates has sent a bill to the House floor that would allow private, faith-based adoption agencies to discriminate against prospective parents based on their sexual orientation. Would you support this?

Yes, I think if it is a private organization it's okay.
No, there should be no discrimination.
It should depend on a case by case basis.
