A Virginia tourist attraction that depicted the life of Jesus is being put on the auction block.

Holy Land USA in Bedford County will be sold December 16 by TRF Auctions in Lynchburg.

Holy Land USA sits on more than 180 acres and has 20 sites that include depictions of Jesus' empty tomb, Mount Moriah and the Upper Room where he had the last supper with his disciples. The attraction also includes a chapel and recreation center and a gift shop.

A Bedford businessman, the late Robert Johnson, built Holy Land USA in 1972 as a memorial to his son.

Holy Land USA Inc. has operated the attraction since 2008. President Mike Dodson says the nonprofit decided to sell the property because of low visitation and high maintenance costs.
