Officials from Waynesboro Downtown Development, Inc. released a list of goals they have for downtown.
"Our vision is to create a vibrant and sustainable district. that is what this aims to do," says Len Poulin with the Waynesboro Downtown Development, Inc. Board of Directors.
Poulin laid out a list of initiatives the board plans on taking to get downtown thriving again.
It starts with a new promotional campaign called "Shop Downtown Waynesboro."
Poulin also wants to identify potential businesses that would be a good fit to the city and start a recruiting effort to get them there.
"This is how downtowns have been successfully revitalized all across North America," says Poulin.
However, downtown business owners remain skeptical about how effective this new campaign will be.
When asked how confident he is in Waynesboro Downtown Development, Music City Owner Tim Spears replied, "Not at all."
Spears has owned Music City for almost 25 years. He's seen a fair share of businesses come and go downtown and says vacancies still plague the city.
"I guess they are trying to do all they can. It seems like when they help one, they hurt the other," says Spears.
Downtown Development officials say they plan to publish events and information packets to send to the city council, property owners and business owners like Spears.
"I think they have some good goals in mind. Whether they can achieve them and if they do achieve them what it's going to do," says Poulin.
Because of a reduction in funding to Downtown Development, it's starting a donation drive in the city, with a goal of raising $70,000 to help in the new campaign.
Downtown Development officials also want to enlist a group of volunteers to help them with their new initiatives.
