Harrisonburg will be the first city in the nation to host IPv6, the latest technological break through in communications.

It will allow the public to access resources made available through a network of servers.

Those servers will host a wide variety of information including access to government, educational, and business tools.

Working for the past couple of years, the city hopes IPv6 will bring businesses to the area and also make Harrisonburg competitive with advanced areas like Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads.

"Harrisonburg is not known for technology as they are. So you have to put the mechanisms in place to be able to be more competitive," says Jim Barnes, Associate Director of Economic Development for the city of Harrisonburg.
