Governor Mark Warner has denied the county's request for disaster aid due to the drought. Rockingham County Administrator Bill O'Brien was notified Wednesday evening by phone, by the State Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
O'Brien says the Governor denied the request because the county's fall and winter crop losses were less than 30%.
But, the drought has continued through the summer so the board voted to try again. The county will reassess the crop losses and again asked the Governor to declare a drought disaster area.
