This is the first dead bird to test positive in Rockingham County. The dead hawk was found on Aug. 8, just outside Harrisonburg.

On the same day a dead crow was found in Bath County. This afternoon TV3 received word that both tested positive. West Nile can be deadly to humans, especially the elderly or young children.

Symptons may include fever, muscle aches and even a skin rash. "If you have bird baths make sure you change the water. If you have trash cans drill holes in the bottom to water doesn't sit. If you have old tires take them to the landfill and get water out of them, " says Rockingham County Chairman Bill Kyger.

The best way to protect yourself is to get rid of any standing water and use a DEET based insect repellant.
