Bicylists in Waynesboro joined together for a tribute to those hurt on the road. They participated in the first-ever "Ride of Silence" in the city.
More than a dozen cyclists wore arm bands to pay tribute to bicyclists who have been killed or injured, while riding on streets. Participants were not allowed to speak during the ride.
They had to communicate using hand gestures. And they say the "Ride of Silence" is designed to let drivers know, that cars aren't the only ones travelling on the roads.
The campaign is "to draw attention to bicyle safety and to encourage motorists to respect cyclists on the road, to share the road with us," said participant Russell Culver.
Harrisonburg also held a "Ride of Silence" tonight. The national campaign started in Texas in 2003.
