Parts of Pendleton County received several inches of snow the day after Thanksgiving.

At 3,000 feet on Elk Mountain, the border between Pendleton and Pocahontas counties is covered in snow.

County Maintenance Supervisor Darell Warner has three trucks constantly clearing roads all over Pendleton County.

Warner says, "We've been watching for snow steadily since the 15th of November. We've been night watching 24-7."

His crew has been plowing, salting, and driving up and down the mountains, making sure that all roads are safe for drivers.

Warner says, "Traffic is flowing good. We've been treating since early this morning around five and it's melted off the mountains."

Sheldon Waggy, a Department of Highways Operator, has been in constant contact with crews throughout the day.

Waggy says, "It wasn't too bad. It melted as soon as you put the cinders down on it. It melted it."

Roads were cleared of snow before traffic became too heavy, but drivers on other mountains were not as fortunate.

Waggy says, "It did out there on some other mountains. A tractor trailer was hung up out there. The further you go west, the more there is."

While roads in the area remained safe during the day, Warner says his crews are always on alert.

Warner says, "You have people hang up, tractors and trailers hang up and so forth. You get a lot of ski traffic coming through on Friday nights and so forth. If you're receiving snow, you're bound to have trouble."

Pendelton and Highland counties are expecting to see several more inches of snow into the evening Saturday.
