Police say that officer Greg Deeds was traveling southbound on South Main Street when he swerved to avoid a car near Corporate Drive. Investigators say Deeds tried to maneuver the bike and put it down, and by doing that he suffered some road abrasions and possibly a broken hand. Police say Deeds was unconscious at first, but regained consciousness at the scene. He was still airlifted to UVA for pre-cautions. The accident reconstruction team is still looking into the incident.
"They've gone out they're, they've taken measurements, the accident scene...looked at all the skid marks all the different marks in the roadway, looked at the vehicles and all that, interviewed people, so they'll take all of those things, put them together and come up with a determination to what exactly happened," says Lt. Kurt Boshart of the Harrisonburg Police Department.
The driver of the other vehicle did stop and cooperated with police... No charges have been filed.
