One person has been killed in a crash on Bishop Mead Road in Boyce.
Virginia State Police responded to the accident just after 4 a.m. Friday.
Forty-one-year-old William Bryan Scott of White Post was pinned under the car after it flipped and died at the scene.
The driver, 24-year-old Larry Germine Williams also of White Post, was taken to Winchester Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition. He suffered cuts to his face and a broken neck.
Police say Williams was driving west toward Route 340 when he reportedly ran off the road. His vehicle overturned in a wooded area after hitting several rocks on a hill.
Police say the car went into the air and landed back on the road where it spun around several times on its roof before stopping in a ditch.
Officials say the vehicle was going between 50 and 70 miles per hour when the crash occurred, ejecting Williams and Scott.
Authorities say there was a smell of alcohol in the vehicle, which may have played a role in the accident.
Williams has been charged with DUI and driving on a suspended license. More charges are pending.
