Virginia State Police say a mother and her newborn son are doing well after troopers helped a family deliver their baby along Interstate 64 in Rockbridge County.

Officials say Raymond Workman, of Clifton Forge, sought help from police while trying to get his wife, Kaylia, to the hospital earlier this week. When the baby began to crown, he pulled onto the eastbound shoulder and stopped the vehicle.

Two troopers helped deliver the baby, Kaydan Issiah Workman, who was then transported with his mother to Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Lexington.
