The giant contractor hired to transform Virginia government's huge, far-flung computer system might miss an extended deadline for next summer.

That's the finding of a final report issued Monday by the General Assembly's investigative arm.

Northrop Grumman's deadline for transforming the infrastructure of the state's system of computer networks was due in July 2009 but was extended for a year.

Now the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission says the company can't complete work for at least four agencies and eight more are unlikely.

Northrop Grumman holds a ten-year contract worth nearly $2.4 billion. That's the largest single-vendor Virginia government contract ever.
