Northbound Interstate 81 Reopens After Accident

The Virginia Department of Transportation reports both northbound lanes of Interstate 81 at exit 247 in Harrisonburg have reopened.

The road was closed following a tractor trailer crash damaging the Route 33 bridge.

The Harrisonburg Police Department says a flatbed truck carrying some kind of tall cargo hit the bridge. State Police say they believe the trailer was carrying a crane.

The truck has not been located. State troopers continue to search for it.

VDOT says the crash caused minor damage to the bridge.

Motorists are warned there may still be congestion in the area.

Traffic was backed up for about five miles on the interstate.
