Shenandoah Telecommunications Company, with more than 100 years of experience providing telephone, Internet and cable television services, announced it will be donating new digital video camera equipment and several magazine subscriptions to Pendleton County Middle - High School in Franklin, West Virginia.
The new equipment will be delivered to the school by Shentel representatives Friday. School officials and Superintendent of Pendleton County Schools Doug Lambert are expected to be present.
Shentel will be presenting a new Canon FS200 video camera with flash memory, an Olympus clip-on microphone, an additional hand-held microphone and camera accessories such as a tripod, memory cards and a green screen kit with lights.
Shentel is also donating several magazine subscriptions to the school’s library. The magazines include Science News, Golden Seal, Wild Wonderful WV, Consumer Reports and National Geographic.
Altogether, the total value of the camera equipment and the magazine subscriptions is about $1,000.
The camera equipment will be used by students in the school’s communications class to film student activities in and around the school and create local school news segments. Later on, Shentel plans to air some of the student-produced content on Simply Local, Shentel’s local community channel that features classified ads, event listings, obituaries, local weather and local videos.
“From cable networks to streaming online content, video has become a vital aspect of our daily lives and is a required part of news reporting today,” says Chris Kyle, Director of Marketing, Shentel. “That is why Shentel is excited to be providing Pendleton County Middle - High School with brand-new, high-tech digital equipment for its communications program. Plus, it really is a win-win situation for both Shentel and for the school. The students will gain valuable hands-on experience in producing programs from start to finish, and Shentel will be able to access new and important community content on its Simply Local community channel.”
